The City of North Olmsted is seeking a strategic, forward-thinking leader to serve as Director of Economic & Community Development. Appointed by and reporting directly to the Mayor, this executive-level position leads the City’s planning, zoning, and economic development efforts while guiding long-term growth, business investment, and community vitality.
This role oversees department operations, manages strategic planning initiatives, and ensures implementation of the City’s Master Plan and Planning & Zoning Code. The Director works cross-departmentally and with elected officials, developers, residents, and regional partners to support responsible development, streamline projects, secure grants, and advance policies that strengthen the local economy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Economic & Community Development Department
- Oversee planning, zoning, and long-range development strategies
- Prepare and manage local, state, and federal grant applications
- Guide business retention, expansion, and attraction initiatives
- Supervise departmental staff and operations
- Serve as liaison to City Council, boards, and community stakeholders
- Develop and administer annual operating and capital budgets
Ideal Background
Candidates should have experience in city planning, urban studies, or a related field, with demonstrated leadership in planning, zoning administration, project management, and public-sector operations. Strong communication, policy development, and stakeholder engagement skills are essential.
