Sunbury is a rapidly growing community located 25 miles north of Columbus, Ohio, in fast-growing Delaware County.  The City currently has nearly 8,000 residents and is issuing new residential building permits at a record pace.  The City plans to construct a new interstate interchange and parkway that will open approximately four miles of road frontage for new commercial and residential development.  Another 1,600 acres of newly annexed land east of Sunbury is planned for light-industrial development.  The City is growing in almost every direction and dimension, and is seeking a qualified Director of Development to assist with its development.

Position Summary

The City of Sunbury is hiring a Director of Development to lead the City’s economic development, planning, zoning, building, and code enforcement efforts. This full-time leadership role is ideal for a strategic, motivated professional ready to guide growth in one of Ohio’s fastest-developing communities. Key responsibilities include managing departmental staff and consultants, driving business attraction and retention, overseeing permitting and zoning, and serving as a liaison to key city commissions. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred), at least five years of related experience with two in a leadership role, and knowledge of Ohio zoning laws and economic development principles.
