Ikea Created a Swedish Meatball Donut — But It’s Only Available at One Location

The furniture store is joining Ohio’s Butler County Donut Trail in honor of National Donut Day.

For most counties, having an official 80-mile “Donut Trail” encompassing 13 self-described “mom-and-pop donut shops” would be enough. But Ohio’s Butler County — which established its trail back in 2015 — wants more. And in honor of National Donut Day on June 3, the county is putting a Swedish jewel in its crown, teaming up with none other than Ikea for a special stop on the trail and featuring an actual Swedish meatball donut.

Ikea West Chester has partnered with Travel Butler County to get in the donut day spirit with its own unorthodox pastry. The result is an Ikea-inspired donut “featuring a light and fluffy base, lingonberry glaze, lingonberry sauce” before being “topped with a delectable Ikea meatball or plant-based ball.” Yes, an actual meatball.

How does this mix of sweet and savory taste? “It’s something you need to try,” Kitalena Mason, loyalty manager for Ikea West Chester, said in the announcement. “This is a new take on iconic Ikea flavors and we’re excited to join the legendary Donut Trail in celebrating National Donut Day this year.”

These meatball donuts will be offered only at the West Chester Ikea store, entirely free of charge while supplies last, on both June 3 and 4 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Of course, there’s more to the Butler County Donut Trail than a crazy Ikea donut. Travel Butler County says that other unique donuts to try include “fried cream cheese, s’mores, jalapeño cheddar fritters, key lime, raspberry cheesecake, fruity pebbles, buckeye, banana pudding, old fashion kettle fried, pineapple fritter, almond joy and even vegan donuts.”

Sure, after eating any one of those donuts, you can’t also walk out with a new couch. But if you get a Donut Trail passport and collect stamps at all the stops you can get a free official Donut Trail T-shirt, which may be the only thing you can’t get at Ikea.
