Ohio Election Results:

Voter turnout for the November General Election in Ohio was quite high. According to the Secretary of State’s office, of the state’s 8,070,917 registered voters, 54.3 percent voted.

In Federal races, U.S. Senate Democratic incumbent Senator Sherrod Brown defeated Congressman Jim Renacci (R-Wadsworth) with a 53.19 to 46.81 percent advantage. In U.S. House of Representatives races, the Ohio Congressional delegation political breakdown remained the same in all 16 seats. Ohio U.S. Representatives Marcia Fudge (D), Marcy Kaptur (D), Troy Balderson (R), Mike Turner (R), David Joyce (R), Tim Ryan (D) and Steve Stivers (R) all won re-election. Steve Chabot (R), Brad Wenstrup (R), Joyce Beatty (D), Jim Jordan (R), Bob Latta (R), Bill Johnson (R), Bob Gibbs (R) and Warren Davidson (R) were also successful. Likewise, former Ohio State University football player and first-time candidate for elected office, Anthony Gonzales (R), won election by 56.84 percent of the vote.

Ohio Economic Development Institute Graduates First Group of Certified Economic Developers

The Ohio Economic Development Institute, a continuing education program for experienced economic developers, has graduated its first seven participants. Another 16 will complete the program in six months.

The program offers hands-on, practical training in economic development to career professionals with at least three years of experience in the field. The institute is facilitated through a partnership between the Ohio Economic Development Association, the Ohio University Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, and JobsOhio. Launched in 2016, it is the first state-level economic development certification program in Ohio.

80 Acres Farms To Open First Fully-Automated Indoor Farm in the United States

80 Acres Farms, a fast-growing Cincinnati-based firm in the indoor vertical farming industry, announced it is building in Hamilton the first fully-automated indoor farm in the U.S. A ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday, September 24 to mark the first phase of the project. The initial phase is expected to be completed later this year and will feature state-of-the-art grow centers to produce specialty greens that include microgreens, culinary herbs, leafy greens and kale.
