Economic Development Director – City of Middletown

Middletown, Ohio, located along Interstate 75 halfway between Cincinnati and Dayton with a population of more than 50,000, is seeking a visionary Economic Development Director. The Director will report to the Assistant City Manager and work closely with the City of Middletown Port Authority. Position is responsible for overseeing the implementation of programs and plans related to the economic revitalization of the city; developing and leading specific job growth strategies in retention and attraction; serving  as liaison for various community development projects; responsible for city workforce development efforts; and overseeing the small business development assistance program.

Position actively identifies and recruits quality businesses for relocation and expansion using a variety of incentives and marketing techniques; works closely with and maintains the confidence of the business community; engages regularly with regional  economic efforts and professionals; advocates on behalf of prospective and existing businesses with other city departments; makes public presentations; and directly supervises the economic development department.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Marketing, Planning, Economics, or related field. Minimum of five years’ experience in managing an economic development department or closely related field. Certified Economic Development (CEcD) or Ohio Certified Economic Developer (OhioCED) designation desirable, but not required. Candidate must have superior communication and interpersonal skills. Extensive experience in economic development field including incentives, planning, project financing techniques, marketing, and redevelopment must be evident in background.
