OMA’s 2023 Workforce Services Roadmap Now Available

For the past six years, the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association Workforce Roadmap has helped guide Ohio’s manufacturing sector by outlining top priorities and strategies aimed at protecting and growing Ohio manufacturing. The most recent Roadmap, which was released January 27, 2023, can be found here

The Workforce Roadmap outlines the following as top priorities for modern manufacturing workforce development in 2023:

  1. Expand earn-and-learn programs to engage, evaluate, and employ recruits. 
  2. Accelerate the development of a statewide Innovation/Industry 4.0 education and workforce development environment.
  3. Develop the structures and processes that help manufacturers hire and retain workers through a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens. 
  4. Strengthen and expand the capacity of OMA’s ISPs (Industry Sector Partnerships).

As part of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) passed in 2022, a new federal program was created that provides great opportunity for Ohio – the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund (GGRF). It allocates $27 billion in financial assistance through three programs to reduce harmful air pollutants, mobilize financing and private capital, and deliver benefits for low-income and disadvantaged communities.

Housing: An Overlooked Solution Puzzle Piece

The word is out Central Ohio is a wonderful place to live and work. While job opportunities are prevalent, the housing market is a challenge. The headlines are focused on new builds and further directed at greenspace and farmland depletion, zoning, density, affordability, transportation, congestion, the impact on schools, and concerns about community identity. New builds are vital, but the housing puzzle has an overlooked solution piece with abandoned and underutilized property.
