Research Associate – The George V. Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University
THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION. EMPLOYMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTINUED FUNDING FROM THE GRANT PROVIDER.
The George V. Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University is seeking an enthusiastic and flexible Research Associate who will assist a multidisciplinary team of faculty, professional staff, and students with applied research, data analysis, project management, oral presentations, report/grant writing, and related tasks in the areas of energy policy and economic development. The position will directly apply knowledge of energy policy/planning, electric utility regulation, sustainability, and economic/workforce development, specific to Ohio and the Midwest region. We seek candidates that have a quantitative and/or qualitative background in energy and climate research, energy technology and development, grid reliability and resiliency research, regional planning, stakeholder engagement, economic development, labor economics, and related issues.
Position duties include compiling and analyzing energy and economics data (e.g., from NREL, EIA, PJM, BEA, BLS, etc.), energy and electricity modeling (e.g., energy production or GHG impacts models), policy analysis/evaluation, interview and survey research, workforce transition mapping, and economic impact analysis (e.g., using IMPLAN). Strong verbal and written communication skills are required for applied research projects conducted at the School. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a team environment, have advanced problem-solving skills, and will be highly motivated to contribute to meaningful, applied research projects that create public value and help inform future business and policy decisions.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in public policy, economics, political science, urban/regional planning, environmental science, or another relevant field, plus 4–5 years of work experience, is required. Knowledge and experience with public, private non-profit, and social service organizations and systems.
Applicants must have a valid U.S. driver’s license and the ability to travel as needed to fulfill job duties. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a grant funded position and is available immediately after the search.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in public policy, economics, political science, urban/regional planning, environmental science, or another relevant field is preferred. Relevant experience in the analytic, planning, and policy dimensions of energy and economic systems is highly desired.
