OEDA has many interesting and dynamic professional development sessions coming up soon. Be sure to check out the following:

  • Economic Development Tools Webinars: Our OEDA / Bricker Webinar on CRA and Enterprise Zone tax incentives is coming up on June 6, from 9:30 to 11am, followed soon there after by the Webinar on Joint Economic Development Districts on July 11, 2022. These webinars provide an update on Ohio’s most popular programs, as well as basic “how to” perspective at the practical level.
  • The popular one-day in person session on Economic Impact Analysis will be on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in partnership with Ohio University and Bowling Green State University in Perrysburg, Ohio. On July 22, we will be conducting the Fiscal Impact Analysis course on Friday, July 22 in partnership with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. Our third course on ROI and Gap Analysis for Incentives will take place Friday, September 2nd.
  • OEDA’s Core Courses continue with the Real Estate Development Course on June 23 – 23, taking place at the Ohio University Dublin Campus.

Finally, be sure to Save the Date for the Housing & Economic Development Convening, taking place on October 3 as a Pre-Con to OEDA’s Annual Summit.  This conference is being conducted in partnership with the American Planning Association Ohio Chapter, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, and Enterprise.

All of OEDA’s courses offer OhioCED credit. Many offer AICP Continuing Education Credit as well.

A Stronger Workforce through Understanding Mental Health and Addiction

About three months ago, we launched our Recovery Within Reach campaign, a first-of-its-kind effort to educate Ohioans about the financial effects of opioid addiction — and to connect them with treatment options close to their homes.

Our goal is to create a new way of talking about addiction, one in which people consider the facts and practical realities of how substance use disorder affects their lives. Not long ago, Gov. Mike DeWine challenged all of us in state government to think of ways we could help Ohioans navigate the opioid crisis that has affected our state for so long. For us, that meant considering the financial effects of addiction — and providing tools and trainings to help Ohioans and financial advisers talk about addiction and access care.

Newark Development Partners continues to make strides in Downtown Newark

Newark Development Partners (NDP), the community improvement corporation for the City of Newark, continues to further development in the Downtown through various projects. The sale of the Hudson Avenue Church with surrounding property, the renewal of the Downtown Special Improvement District and the commencement of construction at the Historic Arcade are all recent successes for the City of Newark.
