Ohio Delegation Strengthens Its Relationship with Japan

This month, Gov. Mike DeWine and Ohio legislators, economic development partners and other leaders traveled to Japan for a business development mission. The purpose of the visit was to grow relationships with current and prospective company investors and create greater awareness about Ohio among company representatives, key influencers and government leaders. The Ohio delegation also took part in the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association (MWJA) Conference, an annual gathering of Midwest states to discuss the growth and progress of economic relations between the American Midwest and Japan.

Eva Popovec had an idea for a new store in Youngstown. She was passionate about art and opening a pottery painting studio, but she had little business expertise. That’s where Christine Dailey comes in. She’s a business counselor at the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Youngstown State University, and she helped Popovec develop business plans and financial forecasts and helped secure the financing necessary to get her dream started.

Infinite Acres venture chooses City of Hamilton as new headquarters

The City of Hamilton has become a home base for high-tech indoor farming operations. The city recently welcomed Infinite Acres, an independent joint venture that aims to provide the best technology available to grow the highest quality produce near population centers throughout the world. The venture includes three firms: Hamilton-based 80 Acres Farms, Netherlands-based Priva Holding BV, and U.K.-based Ocado Group.

National Economic Development Leaders Gather in Cincinnati to Share Community Partnership and Innovation Best Practices

This week, Uptown Cincinnati served as a best practice example of economic inclusion, community and institutional partnerships, and innovation during the eighth annual Anchor District Forum. From Wednesday, September 11 to Friday, September 13, more than 35 professionals from 15 peer anchor districts across the country gathered to learn about Uptown Consortium, Inc.’s (UCI) community development efforts and progress of the Uptown Innovation Corridor.
