Economic Development Specialist – Lorain County

The Lorain County Board of Commissioners is currently accepting applications for the position of Economic Development Specialist within the Community Development Department.

Position Summary:
Under supervision of the Director and in collaboration with other departments, this position involves the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute programs that impact economic growth and activities that promote economic vitality throughout the County. Essential functions include organizing and creating economic development plans for public improvement, finance incentives, redevelopment projects, attraction of new investment, and business retention and expansion for existing companies.

Strong abilities in marketing are preferred and high-level skills in using various platforms for promotional procedures (Facebook, LinkedIn, Photoshop, Publisher, etc.). This role is responsible for communication functions of the Department, including media relations, marketing plans, social media campaigns, website maintenance, and supplemental marketing strategies. Additionally, an ideal candidate will be expected to aid in research techniques/materials, analyzing data, evaluating methods, and incorporating results in practices and programs.

Other duties that fall within the scope of this position include assisting with public relations, participating in events, building a good rapport with elected officials, and acting as a liaison between County government and various agencies, offices, or businesses to ensure effective communication and contribution. Further related duties may be required under the position’s responsibilities.

Qualifications Required:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, Planning, Marketing, or a related discipline. Experience in a private industry or public sector, and/or any combination of the above education, training, and work experience.

Candidates must possess a valid Ohio vehicle operator’s license and maintain continuing eligibility for insurance coverage in order to apply for this position.
