The month of March offered an array of positive news on Ohio’s continued momentum when it comes to economic development success. Site Selection released its 2017 Governor’s Cup rankings, and Ohio earned the No. 2 spot overall for total projects for the fourth consecutive year and placed third in overall projects per capita. That makes Ohio the only state to consecutively place in the top three of both categories.

Ohio is one step closer to finding new solutions in the battle against drug abuse and addiction. The second phase of the Ohio Opioid Technology Challenge will accelerate the development of technology in four innovation Challenges. The goal is that these technology-based discoveries will help prevent and treat addiction and overdoses.
“We were thrilled by the outpouring of ideas we received in the first phase of the Technology Challenge,” said Director David Goodman, chair of the Ohio Third Frontier Commission. “We’re eager to move forward with this next step in developing new solutions and saving lives.”

The Shared Economic Development Manager (SEDM) will provide economic development services to the cities of Wickliffe, Willowick, and Kirtland under the direction of the Lake County Ohio Port and Economic Development Authority (LCOPEDA). The SEDM will be a highly visible professional who must have the ability to make good strategic decisions; demonstrate strong civic and community leadership; work cooperatively with individual communities and balance priorities; build relationships with municipal leadership, economic development partners, and the business community. The SEDM shall use their expertise to help define the character and trajectory of economic growth in each city by promoting the community and developing sustainable jobs matched to local employment needs and opportunities and increasing the municipal tax base. The SEDM shall support each city by fostering an attractive economic climate by welcoming new business opportunities; building on local assets, resources, heritage and innovation.

Occupations with the highest chance of being automated involve work that involve highly predictable physical activities as well as collecting and analyzing data. Thus, occupations are more likely to change than be automated away. Advances in computer software and the development of artificial intelligence is giving computers the ability to learn while the cost and ability of robots is making them more and more common place in the manufacturing sector.
