The Diversity & Inclusion Technology Internship initiative places highly motivated college students at early-stage technology companies or companies with a technological need. The Ohio Development Services Agency operates the initiative through the Ohio Third Frontier.
Winter, Spring, and Summer have flown by at the HCDC Business Center. I am not new to the #StartupCincy ecosystem, but my first nine months at HCDC have been a whirlwind; it is amazing to see the clustering and organic partnering that takes place when you get a lot of really smart people (i.e. actual rocket scientists) working together in close confines. In my mind, the Business Center is a mini-microcosm of the overall Greater Cincinnati/Dayton economic ecosystem – we’ve got aerospace, medtech, biotech, military, and digital – but the one thing that sets HCDC and Cincinnati apart from other ecosystems (the valleys and the alleys) is the tremendous amount of innovation, clustering, and manufacturing specific startups that resonate up and down the supply chain.
State Update:
The US Department of Agriculture’s Crop Production Report released in early August confirmed that Ohio farmers planted nearly 20% fewer acres in 2019 (compared to 2018) due to record-setting rains earlier this year. Ohio saw the third highest level of prevented acreage compared with other states, behind only South Dakota (3.86 million) and Illinois (1.5 million). 54 Ohio counties have been granted disaster designations by USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue due to rain, flooding or other weather conditions.
