The $1.5 million dollar facility was constructed in the current patio area of the Antwerp school building and provides an advanced, state-of-the-art, multi-purpose learning space for students. The high-tech facility will be the most advanced learning space in any public school in this part of the state. According to a statement by Antwerp Local Schools Superintendent Martin Miller, “The Antwerp Board of Education, administration and staff are committed to being responsive to the changing landscape of education and finding ways to most appropriately prepare our students. Placemaking Interventions to Mitigate the Impacts of Climate Change

As the world sees increasingly warmer temperatures, new measures to mitigate the impacts of a changing climate are needed to save lives and increase the livability of our cities and towns. Around the world, we’re seeing extreme weather events with effects such as a rise in the occurrence of urban street flooding, with extreme flooding events causing trillions of dollars in damage annually. The United Kingdom experienced its worst heat wave on record in mid-July with highs topping 40 degrees Celsius for the first time ever, and a rise in dangerous heat waves across the world are killing thousands each year.

Adaptive Reuse of Historic Properties

As part of the Ohio Main Street Program, Heritage Ohio hosts quarterly Revitalization Series trainings in Main Street communities across the state, focused on the four points of the Main Street approach. An ongoing conversation in the preservation world centers on what to do with historic buildings that have outlived their usefulness, or have simply become obsolete. In late July, roughly 40 Main Streeters gathered in Medina to tour and consider three outstanding examples of adaptive reuse, radically re-envisioning the possibilities for vacant properties.
